Philippine Haggai Institute Alumni Association (PHIAA) is a non-stock non-profit organization registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1981 aimed at training the clergy and laity in leadership for evangelism through seminars.

It has already trained over 7,000 Filipino leaders. These leaders are now effective witnesses for the Lord by living as salt and light and are also sharing their training with others so that our nation can be impacted with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Elections were held during the last day of the 3 day Annual General Assembly. Jun Sermonia took over the presidency from Reiner R. Puno whose three year term as board member ended.

The Annual General Assembly was held last March 12 to 14, 2009 at the Sulo Hotel in Diliman, Quezon City. More than 100 alumni from all over the country attended the assembly. The activities during the assembly included a Faculty Initiation Seminar (FIS), A Chapter President's Meeting, Training Coordinator's Meeting, Welcome Dinner and Fellowship and the Business Meeting and Elections. Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno delivered a challenging message during the opening worship service just before the business meeting. Fourteen alumni graduated from the very first Faculty Initiation Seminar and past PHIAA President and Phil. Regional Representative Dave Gutierrez gave the convocation address during the FIS graduation.

Alumni in Focus

The future is better than the past, that was the theme at the testimonial dinner of newly elected Bishop Rodolfo A. Juan of the Philippines, who has advanced his leadership skills while at Haggai Institute. Susan Lee Chomi reports.

The newly elected bishop of the United Methodist Church of the Baguio Episcopal Area in the Philippines is an alumnus from Haggai Institute. Rev. Dr. Rodolfo A. Juan was elected on the 7th balloting and was the first bishop elected during the 2008 PCC Episcopal election. He was assigned to supervise the work in the Baguio Episcopal Area for the quadrennium 2008-2012.

The Baguio Episcopal Area is one of the three Episcopal areas of the Philippines Central Conference of the United Methodist Church. At present, it has eight annual conferences, namely Northern Philippines Annual Conference (NPAC), Northwest Philippines Annual Conference (NWPAC), Northeast Philippines Annual Conference (NEPAC), North Central Philippines Annual Conference (NCPAC), Central Luzon Philippines Annual Conference (CLPAC), Pangasinan Philippines Annual Conference (PPAC), Northeast Luzon Philippines Annual Conference (NELPAC), and Tarlac Philippines Annual Conference (TARPAC).

The area of responsibility extends from the Tarlac province in the south to the Basco, Batanes, in the north and includes mission work in the country of Nepal.

It was with a sense of joy that we attended the testimonial dinner for Bishop Rodolfo A. Juan. It was a very well attended and delightful experience laced with inspirational messages. Haggai Institute's Vice President of International Training, Sundar Singh Sangma, was the guest speaker and the theme of his message, "Future: Better than the Past!," was based on Isaiah 43:18-19.

Our Regional Director for East Asia, Benny Siswanto, was also present. Benny described Bishop Rudy Juan as a person with "relational and relationship" capabilities who puts people at ease in different situations.

Our prayers accompany you wherever you go, Bishop Rudy. We in the Haggai global family are soldiers of Christ, interceding endlessly for the success of your ministry and people.

PNP Special Leadership Training Seminar

The Philippine Haggai Institute Alumni Association (PHIAA) conducted a special leadership training seminar with the Philippine National Police (PNP) from March to May, 2008 in Camp Vicente Lim, Canlubang, Laguna. This is a two whole day training for 11 weekends which commenced last March 15 to 16 and all weekends thereafter ending on the weekend of May 24 and 25. This was participated in by 11 new police recruit classes of the PNP. Average class attendance is 45 to 50 or for total of 640 participants with 26 Haggai facilitators teaching in all weekends. The training coordinator for the entire run is PNP Maj. Elmar Sillador,

Last June 7, 2008 a graduation fellowship was held at the Camp Vicente Lim gymnasium, all the participants were present including some of the facilitators. Maj. Dr. Rudy Juan, Haggai Institute international faculty PHIAA board member was the keynote speaker during the graduation. Among the highlights of the graduation was the sharing of the experience of 5 junior recruits. Based on their statements they were indeed blessed during the training.

Subject such as Biblical Mandate for Evangelism; Goals Setting; Leadership and Management, Leadership and Family, Leader’s Integrity were taught during the seminar. And based on the feedbacks that we gathered, the training was indeed a blessings for the participants. Furthermore, most of the alumni who taught were also blessed and learned a lot about the PNP. We can safely  claim that the entire experience was really a breakthrough experience for all participants including facilitators.

This special training for the PNP has been a regular program of PHIAA. Last year, 2007, the PHIAA conducted special training in Cagayan De Oro and occasionally we conduct regular Area Training Seminar in other parts of the archipelago. We have outstanding Haggai international graduates from the PNP like Gen. Baguio, Maj. Sillador, Col. Sawan and of course Gen. Sam Tucay who paved the way for us to conduct trainings in the different PNP training centers.

The PHIAA intends to have another special PNP training seminar staring July 19, 2008 till September in Camp Vicente Lim and we claim that in our own little way, PHIAA can impact the PNP in a very big way. We indeed give thanks to all those who supported the special training either by teaching or giving financial support. To God be the glory indeed.

"I was in the Haggai Institute Leadership Training last Jan 5-Feb 2, 2008 in the Mid-Pacific. The trip was one of the most memorable events in my life because I have
had experiences that happened for the first time."

1. First time to go to U.S.A. and be served by American and Canadian volunteers.

2. First time to celebrate my birthday with 58 ladies from 29 countries.

3. First time in a place with freezing temperature when we visited Haleakala volcano, even with 5 clothes on and a blanket wool.

4. First time to meet people from Madagascar,  Fiji, Tajikistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ukraine. I thought these places are fictional. I'm sorry my geography is poor.read more>>
